Meet Natalie

I’m Natalie Marr, the Member for Thuringowa in the Queensland Parliament and a lifelong North Queenslander committed to grassroots representation, community safety, and delivering practical results for local families.

I was born in North Queensland and attended St Joseph’s Catholic School in Mundingburra. My life has been dedicated to serving the community through education, local government, and volunteer leadership.

From 2008 to 2012, I served as a Councillor on the Townsville City Council and held the position of Chair of Corporate Governance and Finance, where I led on issues of transparency, accountability, and sound financial management.

I first contested the seat of Thuringowa in 2020. After years of ongoing engagement with our community, I was elected to the Queensland Legislative Assembly in 2024. My journey into politics reflects my grassroots values, staying connected to people on the ground, listening to their concerns, and fighting for long-term change.

I’m a strong supporter of community-led safety initiatives and was honoured to be named Crime Stoppers Queensland Volunteer of the Year in 2014. I went on to serve as Chair of the Crime Stoppers Volunteer Committee Townsville and also served as Secretary of the Kirwan Business Lions Club. These roles reflect my hands-on commitment to civic life.

Since entering Parliament, I’ve been appointed as a Temporary Speaker and as a Member of the Justice, Integrity and Community Safety Committee, responsibilities that align with my long-standing focus on creating safer communities.

I’m known for my genuine and grassroots approach to leadership. I regularly knock on doors, host "Chats with Nat" mobile offices, and meet locals at community stand-ups to make sure my work in Parliament reflects the real priorities of Thuringowa residents.

I remain a trusted and visible presence in our region, driven by a simple belief: good leadership starts with listening.

Natalie's Maiden Speech

Mr Speaker, I am incredibly proud to be standing here in the chamber today as the member for Thuringowa, a community that has delivered me so many opportunities—and now it is my turn to return those opportunities for my electorate. I also take great pride in having the privilege of being one of only just over a thousand Queenslanders elected to serve this great state as a member of parliament.
